First, go to Settings > General > iPad Storage to see what is using the most space on your iPad. The apps listed at the top are the ones using up the most storage space on your iPad and will free up the most space if removed. In addition to deleting the apps themselves, you can also remove data within some of these apps to free up storage space as well as written below.

The following list of apps tend to use up a lot of space:

  • Notability – Delete old notes no longer needed, such as those from previous years or no longer needed for an assignment.
  • iMovie – Delete projects that have already been graded, and any projects that are not school related (personal).
  • GaragebandDelete projects that have already been graded, and any projects that are not school related (personal).
  • Photos – Delete photos and videos that are no longer needed for an assignment, or are not school related (personal).
  • Mail – Delete old emails that are no longer needed.
  • PicCollage/Edu – Delete old projects that have already been graded, and any project that is not school related (personal).

Remember that many apps have a Trash, and you must empty that also (especially the Photos app). After emptying all Trash, go back into iPad Storage to see how much space has been gained. You may need to restart your iPad to see how much storage space you have available to you after taking steps to free up space.
