Adding a new WPS contact to a Contact group in Jabber (on a Windows computer)


  1. From the left hand side of the main Jabber window, click on the ‘Contacts’ tab.
  2. With the ‘Contacts’ tab selected, place your cursor in the ‘Search or call’ field, and click into it.
  3. In the ‘Search or call’ field, enter the following for the WPS contact you want to add: First Name, Last Name or First and Last Name.
  4. From the list of WPS Staff displayed that meet your search criteria, place your cursor over the person you wish to add as a contact.  To the right of the person’s name, you will see three circular icons (gray icon named ‘Add’).
  5. In the ‘Add Contacts’ window displayed, you will see the person’s name displayed that you want to add as a contact.  Below the name, locate the field called ‘Add to’ with a drop-down list next to it, and perform one of the following:
    • If you want to add a new contact to an existing Contact group, click on the drop-down list and select the desired Contact group from the list.  Then click the ‘Add’ button at the bottom of the window to add your new contact to the selected Contact group in Jabber.
    • If you no contact groups created, or you need to create a new Contact group for your new contact, click on the ‘New Group’ hyperlink below the drop-down list.   In the ‘Create A New Group’ window displayed, enter the name of your new Contact group in the field shown (i.e. ‘Contacts’, ‘Admin’, ‘Teachers’, etc.).  When the name has been entered, click on the ‘Create’ button in the window.   This will place the newly created Contact group in the ‘Add to’ field drop-down list.  Click the ‘Add’ button at the bottom of the ‘Add Contacts’ window to add your new contact and Contact group to Jabber.
  6. To place a call to a contact, locate the contact’s name from the appropriate Contact group in Jabber.  Place the cursor on the contact’s name, and click on the green icon with the picture of a phone handset to place the call.
